Emergency meeting of MCA Homeowners

This notice has been forwarded on behalf of a group of homeowners seeking to present important information without 3 minute restrictions.

The future of The Meadows is at Risk!

Who are we:   Representatives of 89% of The Meadows property owners who were NOT members of the failed Meadows Country Club

  • The Meadows Country Club (TMCC) has failed due to long-term insolvency
  • Three golf courses, tennis courts and the Center Court Lounge are closed due to the failure of the Meadows Community Association (MCA) Board of Directors (the President and Vice-President) to act on a short-term plan
  • A long-term plan, if any, is being negotiated in secret by the President and Vice-President, who are not experienced in such complex negotiations
  • On May 8, 2025, the MCA Board of Directors by a vote of 7 to 2 approved a $790,000 blank check of MCA funds to reopen the golf courses, tennis courts, and Center Court Lounge
  • How long will it be before The Meadows faces a large special assessment?
  • The MCA leadership is ignoring the interests of MCA property owners, the 89 percent

    I have been on owner in the Meadows since 2004. I have never been a member of TMCC. I was one of the first to try to raise concern about the MCA subsidizing TMCC. I have attended several of the MCA board meetings this winter and spring. I have a concern with the proposed meeting on Wednesday. It appears to be presented as a bitch session with no stated agenda. The implied agenda appears to suggest that the sports complex, tennis, golf, etc. should be left closed until some other arrangement is developed. I find very little energy in negativity. I fear this will be nothing more than a bitch session by people who are less qualified than the people being accused the same.

      We agree! Ig is a mess. The MCA is acting without public notification or input. The MCA is the problem and it makes no sense that the MCA should think it has the right to define the solution. We should consider legal action. I’ll chip in.

    every meeting of more than five people needs a facilitator! Who will be leading or facilitating this meeting? I fear it will be nothing but a melee of concerned and angry voices! I believe before this meeting takes place there needs to be some structure and more information

    Is there anything you like about how the MCA Board is handling the situation given the new Board took office in March. As for the 3 minutes…. it seems to me the Board is abiding by Robert’s Rules of Order. Short term opening of the golf courses, tennis courts, and CCL is impt. Right? So why bash the ideas. Are you planning a coup? It’s like listening to MAGA on a smaller scale. I’ve attending the last few meetings and the lime green t-shirted owners have been very disruptive.

      Roberts Rules don’t dictate a 3 minute maximum. Florida statutes dictate 3 MINIMUM.

        What I read was the Board can set the number of minutes for comments on the agenda and this Board chose 3 minutes.

    Is the issue the lack of transparency or action or involvement by people in this group? I am a novice on sale vs. long-term lease vs. self-management solutions but while the closures are frustrating and probably were avoidable, shouldn’t we hear the benefits and drawbacks of the options before reacting?

    I am concerned that you may be of the view that the 89% are all of one mind. That is not the case.

    I hope we can agree on:

    The need to maintain the golf properties as viable golf enterprises to support our property values.
    To acknowledge that serious errors were made in the past by both the TMCC and MCA. To re-litigate those areas ad nauseum as we are doing now serves no useful purpose. It is a matter to be re-visited once the enterprise is back up and running.
    That we must get the courses open ASAP. It’s already gone on far too long.
    That MCA must focus on finding the right operator/ lessee as transparently as possible.
    That the Board must be allowed to do the job it was elected to do.
    Despite us all wanting this effort to be completed without costs to the community, that’s not going to happen. The goal is to minimize any financial impact on residents in the short-term while supporting the larger goal of maintaining and growing our property values. Finding potential efficiencies on an “in case they are needed” basis was absolutely the correct action by MCA.

    I fear this group, particularly with the inflammatory and often incorrect data points, are unintentionally working counter to what is necessary to resolve this situation.

      The meeting notice was provided on behalf of the group conducting the meeting.
      We agree with much of what you’ve described.
      But at this point it will likely be MUCH more costly to open the facilities (an extra $300,000 per month) than to just maintain the golf courses and be too high a cost to bear. Usually the profits from Jan-Apr cover the losses from May-Dec, but TMCC has used those profits to pay creditors and MCA is left with the substantial losses. This is a difficult decision but should be done with data and all viable options considered (opening less than 54 holes is another option).
      Generally agree that “the Board must be allowed to do the job”, but the MCA Board has NO experience or knowledge of operating a golf/tennis/dining facility. There is only one golfer on the Board who has some idea of how operations run (and being a golfer does not qualify as a golf operations expert). The prospect of the MCA Board making an agreement with TMCC and possibly a very long-term lease agreement with no expert golf industry expert is NOT in the best interests of the MCA and not meeting their fiduciary duties to make informed decisions.
