MCA Board meeting Reminder: Thurs June 13 @ 2:00

The meeting will be held at the Meadows Community Lifestyle and Wellness Facility. Get there early if you want a seat as last month’s meeting had attendees flowing out into the hallway.

Reminder that at the April 11 Board meeting the President promised to reveal who was on the lease negotiating committee via Constant Contact. It is 2 months later and this still hasn’t happened.

At the May 9 Board meeting The President boasted that “only” 25% of the committee were TMCC members so there was “no conflict of interest”. But they would not reveal who was on the committee. Multiple MCA Homeowner’s requested an Open House meeting on the TMCC lease, but none has happened.

We’ll send out a summary of the May 9 Board meeting but get this in your calendars to attend and participate if you can.

    Very disrespectful not to give ANY type of response to questions that are legitimate as to how future operations can be made more successful and pleasant for everyone to enjoy the facilities here

    It’s a shame that much of what probably will move forward will occur while many of us are not in residence and unable to attend the meeting!

    What is a legitimate challenge to bring up regarding the lease negotiations committee.?

    I have no idea who or why the committee was chosen….and/ or their biases on outcome.

    Should committee be open to any resident?

      Based on a number of comments made publicly and via emails, the committee has been in place since early April, although the Board has done their best to avoid acknowledging it. There was no process to ask for applications to form the committee (as there has been in the past for other committees), even though there was discussion of doing so at the Annual Meeting. They’ve avoided telling even MCA Homeowners who is on the committee even after explicitly committing to do so (along with their qualifications) on April 11. The bar is so low in the Board’s transparency that just getting committee names out of the Board would be a major accomplishment.

    I still don’t understand what it will take to change TMCC to at least a break even country club. Will a new lease have the power to make this happen such as making it like University or Rosedale? I just left the meeting and while happy to see the tennis and pickle ball players working on an agreement.

      TMCC has been losing $1+million per year for more than a decade (without MCA subsidies). A Platinum membership is $10,000. So in rough terms they’d need 100 more Platinum members (single not family as family only pays 25% more). They currently have 46 single platinum members.

      In case it isn’t clear from that description: TMCC IS NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO BREAK EVEN AS A PRIVATE CLUB (without subsidies). They have been trying to do so for more than a decade and cannot. Continuing to lease the assets to TMCC will continue to perpetuate more of the same. As TMCC membership continues to age, more an more subsidization will be required. A big bill is coming to MCA to “fix” the Highlands after TMCC has run it into the ground through poor maintenance. MCA Homeowners will pay for it and TMCC members will be the sole beneficiaries.

      Until MCA Homeowners (somehow) force the MCA Board to stop leasing the assets to TMCC and take on MCA’s responsibilities as owners of the assets, nothing is going to change.
      Step 1 – Don’t commit to another 3 year lease to give the MCA Board time to figure out a better plan and then take action without letting TMCC run the courses further into the ground.
      Step 2 – as owners of the assets is to consult professionals (such as the National Golf Foundation) and develop a viable business plan to run the assets more profitably.
      Step 3 – choose a course of action from the recommendations of the professionals. This will be a difficult step. But it is the only way to utilize the assets to the benefit of MCA Homeowners rather than TMCC members (40% of which aren’t even MCA Homeowners).

    Hi, Below is a copy of the last email that I received from the Blog. Is it possible that my address has been deleted from the list of people subscribers?

    I had come to rely on its information and was astounded today to see what seemed to be not the conversion of Tennis Courts #1 and #2, but rather what might be grading and lighting for new pickleball courts adjacent to the parking lot closest to the Tennis Lounge.

    Unfortunately I am unable to find an email sent by the MCA Board of late June/early July that referred to a conversion of 2 tennis courts and a fee of $120.00 for Pickelball. Whereas I thought a comment would follow shortly thereafter on the Blog or from the MCA BoD, I’m left wondering if my address has been deleted from the Blog subscriber list, or if the Blog publisher/editor has no comment on the result of negotiations that were undertaken on homeowners’ behalf.
